Landmarks across Buffalo, including Buffalo Plaza, Buffalo City Hall and the Peace Bridge, together with more than 1,300 buildings and landmarks around the world, will be lighting up teal on Nov. 1 to raise Alzheimer's awareness as part of the Alzheimer's Foundation of America's (AFA) "Light the World in Teal" program. Nov. 1 marks the start of Alzheimer's Awareness Month.

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced Keyondre Robertson, also known as "Kano," 22, of Buffalo, pleaded guilty this morning before State Supreme Court Justice Paul B. Wojtaszek to one count of manslaughter in the first degree (class "B" violent felony) and one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree (class "C" violent felony).

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced Vincent E. Smith, 37, of Niagara Falls was sentenced yesterday morning before Erie County Court Judge James Bargnesi to 12 years to life in prison. He was sentenced as a persistent violent felony offender.

Associates of Vietnam Veterans Association Chapter 77 will hold a basket raffle and craft show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Gratwick Fire House, 110 Ward Road, North Tonawanda. Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced Christopher L. Busby, 40, of Buffalo, was sentenced this morning before State Supreme Court Justice Paul B. Wojtaszek to five years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. His son, Daiquan A. Busby, 21, of Buffalo, was also sentenced this morning before Judge Wojtaszek to seven and a half years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.

On Oct. 15, at approximately 2:30 a.m., the Niagara Falls Police Department responded to the area of 287 Hyde Park Blvd. for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered an unresponsive male lying in the street, who was pronounced dead by medical personnel.

William Boller to eight years in prison. His co-defendant, Terrance D. Hennegan, 24, of Buffalo, received a determinate sentence of 10 years in prison as a second violent felony offender.

Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski said his office has been made aware of a scam targeting E-ZPass users with fake text messages. Jastrzemski said this scam has been going after customers of tolling agencies across the country that persuades them to enter personal and/or financial information on a phony website - and it appears E-ZPass customers are now the latest targets.

Niagara County Legislator Rich Andres today announced that registration is now open for the county's final household hazardous waste collection event of 2024, which will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, in North Tonawanda. The event is open to all Niagara County residents, but you must register in advance.
