Amherst man sentenced for killing his mother

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced Om D. Samant, 36, of Amherst, was sentenced yesterday afternoon before State Supreme Court Justice Deborah A. Haendiges to a determinate sentence of 10 years in state prison and five years post-release supervision. This was the minimum sentence authorized by the plea agreement and is what was being advocated for by the family of the victim.

DiTullio to one count of manslaughter in the first degree (class "B" violent felony). The defendant pleaded guilty, as charged, to the sole count in the indictment.
