The first genome-wide significant study of the epigenetics of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) has yielded a trove of genetic mechanisms and pathways that are responsible for this disease, a leading cause of severe vision loss in older adults. AMD results from damage in the macula, which provides clear, straight-ahead vision, and therefore is critical to the ability to read, drive and recognize faces.
Higgins: $750,000 to help WNY small businesses establish & expand e-commerce

During Small Business Week, Congressman Brian Higgins announced $750,000 in federal funding to help Western New York start-ups and existing small businesses develop a website and facilitate opportunities to grow online sales. The funding, secured by Higgins in the 2022 budget, is directed to the Small Business Development Center at SUNY Buffalo State, which is leading the e-commerce program.

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced 44-year-old Demario Baines of Buffalo pleaded guilty yesterday morning before Erie County Court Judge Kenneth Case to one count of kidnapping in the second degree (class "B" violent felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the highest count in the indictment against him.
