John Jacoby has announced he is a candidate for the Lewiston Town Board. He has the endorsement of the Town of Lewiston Democratic Committee, and will be running for one of two seats on the board to be decided in the November general election.

Town of Porter Justice David Truesdale has announced his intention to seek re-election to a 10th term as town justice. Truesdale, a lifelong resident of the Town of Porter, is completing his 36th year as justice.

At an awards ceremony on Wednesday, HART Interfaith Inc. (also known as the Home Assistance Referral Team) marked 35 years of helping seniors. "Salute!" was the theme of the dinner program, which was held inside the new Niagara Falls Country Club banquet room in Lewiston.

The fourth annual In For a Penny basket raffle and celebrity bartending night will take place from 1-6 p.m. Saturday, May 27, at the Lewiston Stone House, 755 Center St. Admission is $5. The event includes live music and a basket auction.

The Lewiston Council on the Arts and Corey McGowan Productions have teamed up to bring back A Taste of Lewiston. The grand return of the popular festival - after a 10-year hiatus - will take place from noon until 8 p.m. Saturday, May 27, along Center Street. Almost all of Lewiston's restaurants and businesses will take "center stage" in the historic village.

On Thursday of this week, just ahead of the Lewiston-Porter School District budget vote and School Board elections on Tuesday, residents in the Lewiston and Youngstown communities came across yet another disturbing flyer in their mailboxes. Again it was promulgating hate and racist thoughts, but this time with the names of two Lewiston-Porter Board of Education candidates targeted.

Deputy Treasurer Edward Walker had welcome news for the Village of Lewiston Board of Trustees on Monday. Thanks to an increase in property assessments, trustees can maintain the current tax rate - $7.38 per $1,000 of assessed valuation - and use less of the municipality's reserves.

Wild Kritters of Niagara County has been tending to wounded mammals, birds and reptiles for more than a decade. The organization is licensed by New York State and U.S. Fish and Wildlife to rehabilitate injured and orphaned wildlife. Its goal is to get the animals back into the wild, healthy, as soon as possible.
