Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced 40-year-old Louis C. Goforth of Buffalo was sentenced on Friday morning before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio to 20 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.

The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that State Route 429 - also known as Ward Road - will be closed in the vicinity of Sawyer Creek, just north of the intersection at U.S. Route 62, in the Town of Wheatfield, beginning Monday, July 8, to facilitate a culvert replacement. The closure is expected to remain in place for one month.

With stormy weather in the forecast, and other Lewiston events already modified or canceled Saturday, Artpark & Company moved its annual Strawberry Moon Festival into the Mainstage Theater. The pivot was successful: A Native American marketplace smartly lined the walkways, the smoke dance competition was held in front of an enthusiastic (and seated) audience, and the headline artists performed on the theater stage.

Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops Friendly Markets returns to downtown Buffalo for its 41st event on Saturday, July 13 (11 a.m. to 9 p.m.), and Sunday, July 14 (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.). Gov. Kathy Hochul announced progress toward enhancing Buffalo Harbor State Park with work underway on $47.5 million in new upgrades to the park. The project includes a new spray ground, signature art sculpture and fountain, café/retail space, and park office, and will help provide Buffalo residents and Western New Yorkers with more options to safely cool off and escape the heat in a warming climate.

At its May meeting, the SUNY Niagara board of trustees unanimously approved a $48 million operating budget proposal for the coming fiscal year. Under the spending plan, tuition would stay at the current cost of $2,568 per semester for New York state residents. The college's student fee schedule would also remain unchanged.

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced his office recently helped restore rightful ownership to a 77-year-old Vietnam War veteran who nearly lost his home in a deed theft scheme. Earlier this month, our office successfully argued a motion in State Supreme Court, which validated the victim's property ownership after a scammer attempted to fraudulently sell his property with a falsified document.
