The American Legion National Convention held its 2024 National Concert Band Contest in Indianapolis on Aug. 24, drawing bands from around the country to New Orleans to compete in the American Legion National Concert Band Contest. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced construction is set to begin on the extension of the "crow's nest" at Niagara Falls State Park. The expansion project includes the addition of new stairs and an overlook structure that will connect the existing walkway feature to Prospect Point at Niagara Falls State Park, providing a new and close-up view of the water.

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced 36-year-old Ashley M. Holmes of Kenmore was sentenced this morning before Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio. She received the maximum sentence of 1 1/3 to 4 years in prison.

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced 49-year-old Charrinda Gray of Buffalo pleaded guilty yesterday morning before State Supreme Court Justice Paul B. Wojtaszek to one count of manslaughter in the second degree (class "C" felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge in full satisfaction of the indictment.
