The international homelessness awareness event, the Coldest Night of the Year, is coming up on Feb. 28. Lockport CARES, the one emergency homeless shelter in the City of Lockport, is currently signing up walkers and teams of walkers to experience being homeless in the Western New York winter.

With the cold of winter upon us, the Rotary Club of Grand Island will host its annual Undie Sunday collection between Jan 24 and Feb 8. For 25 years, the Rotary Club has sponsored the collection of new and unused underclothing and socks. This year, there is a particular need for warm socks, T-shirts, underwear and leggings for men, women and children.

National Grid will begin installing new smart meters to its more than 121,000 Buffalo-area customers, providing homeowners and business owners new ways to monitor their energy use and spending.
