The Niagara County Legislature held its annual reorganizational meeting Tuesday night, unanimously electing Michael A. Hill as its new chairman. Hill succeeds Becky Wydysh, who did not seek reelection.
Hill, 54, is currently the longest-tenured legislator, having first been elected in 2005. He represents the 15th Legislative District, which includes the towns of Hartland, Royalton and part of the Town of Lockport. He is a resident of Hartland and a lifelong resident of the district he represents. Hill is the second graduate of Roy-Hart High School to ever serve as chairman of the Niagara County Legislature, following Gerald Meal, who held the position over 25 years ago, and is also a graduate of SUNY Niagara.
“It is my honor to become chairman of the legislature, and I will do my best to lead this body with civility and transparency as we conduct the business of the people of Niagara County,” Hill said. “As a legislator, my top priority has always been to deliver the services our residents need and expect in the most fiscally responsible manner possible, and that will continue.”
Legislator Tony Nemi was elected as vice chairman. Randy Bradt was elected by the majority caucus as majority leader. Jeffrey Elder was elected by the minority caucus as minority leader.
The Niagara County Legislature also announced its 2026 meeting dates, which can be found at niagaracounty.gov, and announced chairs of each of the standing committees:
