The Niagara County Department of Health (NCDOH) is pleased to announce it is offering winter weather emergency preparedness training to the public on Jan. 15.
By inviting the community to join the training session, the NCDOH aims to enhance local resiliency and provide residents information on the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) program. This session will empower individuals and families with the knowledge and strategies used by MRC volunteers to stay safe during Western New York’s most extreme winter conditions.
“Winter in Western New York can be unpredictable and poses significant health risks, from cold-related illnesses to the physical strain of snow removal,” said Dr. Fauzia Khan, public health director. “By offering this training, our goal is to equip residents with the knowledge they need to protect themselves and their loved ones throughout the season.”
Niagara County Legislature Chairman Mike Hill emphasized the importance of community readiness.
“Winter safety is a collective effort. By making this specialized training available to everyone, we are strengthening the resilience of our entire county,” he said. “We want every Niagara County resident to have the tools to stay connected and safe when the snow starts falling.”
Workshop topics Include:
•Winter storm preparedness: Strategies for securing your home and preparing for potential power outages.
•Road safety: Essential tips for vehicle safety and navigating hazardous driving conditions.
•Emergency response: Identifying and preventing cold-related illnesses like frostbite and hypothermia.
•MRC overview: Learn more about the Medical Reserve Corps
