Lions Club awards 2025 scholarships

The Grand Island Lions Club has awarded two 2025 service scholarships and one outstanding character and effort scholarship to three recent Grand Island High School graduates.

Alyssa Pizur and Grace Carpenter were both awarded $1,500 Service Scholarships. Alyssa intends to major in biology at St. John Fisher University. She plans on becoming a pediatric orthodontist. Grace plans on studying biochemistry at Houghton University. She intends on becoming a physician.

The Grand Island Lions scholarship committee said these students characterize the Lions motto, “We Serve.”

The main standards for the service scholarship are community service and volunteer activities. Other criteria are academic excellence, school activities and written formal recommendations.

The Grand Island Lions Club wishes to extend congratulations to these enthusiastic, community-serving young people.

In addition, Pavneet Toor was awarded a $1,000 Outstanding Character and Effort Scholarship. Pavneet plans to attend the University at Buffalo in preparation for a career in law.

This scholarship is awarded to a Grand Island graduating student who fulfills several standards, including showing outstanding character traits and high effort to school. Other criteria include a positive attitude toward school and life, and strong academic standing. The scholarship winner may have faced unfortunate or challenging circumstances in life.
