The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that Grand Island Boulevard (state Route 324), in the Town of Grand Island, will be closed between Whitehaven Road and Long Road beginning at 6 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, for approximately two weeks, to facilitate culvert replacements. Drivers should follow the posted detour using Baseline Road and Long Road.

At the June 8 public hearing on the second proposed school budget, held at Grand Island High School, the issues raised from the 17 community members who spoke included tax increases, the reserve fund, the opportunity for outside groups to use school facilities, messaging on social media, electric school buses, additional budget cuts in the event of a contingent budget, communication issues, the distance that buses travel to take children to special education programs, and financial pressures on the community.

Grand Island: Town Board authorizes supervisor to purchase splash pad

The Grand Island Town Board at its June 1 meeting authorized Supervisor Peter Marston to sign a contract for the purchase of a splash pad from Vortex , a splash pad manufacturer, for $708,806.41. The vote was 3-1, with the dissenting vote coming from Councilman Dan Kilmer. Marston was listed as excused from the meeting.

On a cool and sunny May 15, Charles Wright, a member of Boy Scout Troop 630, along with several assistants, went to Beaver Island State Park to install seven hen tubes and one wood duck box. The construction and installation of these structures was Charles' Eagle Scout project.

Grand Island voters voted down the proposed $81,685,805 school budget for 2026-27 on Tuesday. The vote was 1,352 against the budget, and 1,280 in favor. Voters also turned down proposition two: $672,000 for the purchase of vehicles. The vote was 1,334 against the proposition, and 1,280 in favor.
