Wegmans Press Release
During the fall “Check Out Hunger” scanning campaign, Wegmans customers raised nearly $3.1 million for hunger relief at the company’s 114 stores. This campaign, which ran from Oct. 22 to Nov. 29, allowed customers to donate any amount at checkout, with 100% of the proceeds going to each store's local Feeding America food bank partner.
“This year, the ‘Check Out Hunger’ campaign proved especially vital, arriving at a critical moment when our food bank partners faced a surge in demand caused by the government shutdown and suspension of SNAP benefits,” said Deana Percassi, Wegmans vice president of community engagement and communications. “We are deeply grateful to our customers and employees, who donated so generously for their neighbors in need during this campaign.”
Record-breaking year
The 2025 companywide campaign raised the third-highest amount in the history of “Check Out Hunger.” Below are some highlights from this year:
√ Companywide, customers donated $570,000 more than in 2024.
√ Every division saw an increase in donations year over year, with 25 Wegmans stores raising record amounts during the campaign.
√ The Rochester division reached a record high, exceeding its goal by more than $120,000.
√ The Syracuse division also had a record year, nearly doubling the amount raised in 2024.
Across the Northeast, Wegmans’ stores shared heartwarming stories from the campaign. At the Lyell Avenue store in Rochester, a single customer donated $2,000 across multiple visits. The Tysons Corner (Virginia) store reached its goal 19 days early and nearly tripled the amount raised in 2024. The Montgomeryville (Pennsylvania) and Woodbridge (New Jersey) stores both received $500 cash donations from local customers to help support their communities.
Customers’ donations stay in their local community, with all proceeds going to each store’s local food bank. In Western New York, FeedMore WNY received $495,704 (11 stores in the Greater Buffalo area).
Since the program began in 1993, Wegmans’ “Check Out Hunger” campaign has raised more than $58 million for hunger relief. In addition, Wegmans provides daily donations to local food banks, food pantries and soup kitchens across all its market areas each year. In 2024, the company donated more than 36.6 million pounds of food to its neighbors in need.
