Wheatfield Highway Superintendent Paul Siegmann was honored at the annual School for Highway Superintendents in June.
Siegmann has attended the school for more than 10 years. He was recognized for achieving a decade of attendance on his 11th year at the conference at Ithaca College.
The training conference is hosted by the New York State LTAP (Local Technical Assistance Program) Center – Cornell Local Roads Program and the New York Association of Towns. It is attended by over 700 highway and public works officials across New York.
The goal of the annual training is to share ideas on transportation topics to make roads and highways safe and at an efficient cost.
Siegmann described the conference as a chance to learn more about road building, materials to use, best practices, funding and new laws affecting roads in New York. He said he was honored to be awarded the distinction of keeping his own knowledge current.
“I’m a Level 3 roadmaster, which is from taking classes around the state. I have one level to make and that’s a Level 4 if I can get it before I retire,” he said.
Siegmann was also a member of a panel this year, advising other superintendents how to apply for grant funding.
David Orr, director for NYS LTAP Center, praised those attending the training in a press release.
“These highway professionals from across the state come to the Highway School each year to gain valuable knowledge and share ideas aimed at making New York state’s local roads safer and more cost-efficient,” he said.
