The 2025 version of National Night Out, held Aug. 5 at Town Commons, offered opportunities for children and adults to interact with first responders. There was even a dunk tank, with volunteers who were willing to get wet.

National Night Out is a nationwide event that is held on the first Tuesday of August annually.

Event Chair Rhonda Diehl said, “National Night Out was considered a great success by all. The combination of our first responders, local organizations, advisory boards and businesses brought a uniqueness to Grand Island that offered something for everyone. The sense of community and relationship building is what National Night Out represents and, in my opinion, that mission was accomplished.

“Not only were many law enforcement agencies represented, but our very own Highway Department, and Fire Department among others; all with vehicles, trucks, plows, motorcycles, boats, and even horses for the kids to touch, climb on and ask all sorts of questions about. We all appreciate the time, knowledge and energy that was shared. Perhaps our future generations left with aspirations to serve Grand Island in some capacity one day.

“Thank you to all involved; you made the night a success, and to all those attending: You encouraged us and others by showing these events are wanted. See you next year at National Night Out, for sure.”
