Relay For Life’s crockpot cookoff is set to occur from 6-8 p.m. March 3, at Mallwitz’s Island Lanes, 1887 Whitehaven Road.

This event is hosted by Grand Island’s Relay For Life committee as a kickoff for the 2026 Relay For Life season.

“This is our fifth annual event and the second year at Mallwitz,” Relay For Life co-chair Lynn Marston Dingey said.

Cooks are invited to bring their food in crockpots to the event.

“Just show up with your crockpot. No reservation needed,” Dingey said. She noted people are also invited to come without a crockpot “and take part in all the tastings.”

There is no charge to bring food to the event. Tickets for tastings cost $5 for three samples or $10 for five samples.

The food, Dingey said, is delicious.

“There is always a variety of dishes, and the voting is really close every year,” she said. “I remember there was a chocolate cake to die for and a cinnamon pull-apart dessert that everyone loved. We've had soups, chili, pasta dishes, tacos, potatoes, Italian sausage, gumbo, shredded chicken sandwiches, and the list goes on. It's OK to bring ‘extras’ to serve with your dish, rolls, toppings, etc.”

Dingey said the thing she most enjoys about the crockpot cookoff is “The camaraderie. Food brings people together. Sharing a table with friends or making new friends over a bowl of some yummy food.”

Prizes will be awarded for best food and for best dessert.

All proceeds will be donated to Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society.
