A fatal vehicle crash on Grand Island is being investigated by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office traffic unit. The investigation was announced by Sheriff John C. Garcia.
Just prior to 6 a.m. on April 3, a Kio Rio was traveling northbound on Grand Island Boulevard. The preliminary investigation shows that the operator attempted to make a left turn into the Tops parking lot when he failed to yield to an oncoming Toyota Tacoma, resulting in a collision between the two vehicles.
The operator of the Kia Rio – a 69-year-old Grand Island man – was transported to the Erie County Medical Center. He passed away as a result of his injuries on April 6.
The investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available for release at this time, the Sheriff’s Office reported.
