Press release

The Greater Niagara Ballet Company (GNBC) is proud to present “Fables & Frost,” a charming, family‑friendly ballet program featuring “Peter and the Wolf,” “Les Patineurs (The Skating Party)” and “Jewel Fairies” from “The Sleeping Beauty.”

Performances will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, April 24, and 1 p.m. Saturday, April 25, at the Performing Arts Center at Niagara Falls High School, 4455 Porter Road, Niagara Falls.

Designed to delight audiences of all ages, “Fables & Frost” brings together three beloved works that blend music, storytelling and classical ballet in a magical, winter‑themed program.

‘Peter and the Wolf’

A timeless favorite for young audiences, “Peter and the Wolf” is based on Sergei Prokofiev’s 1936 musical tale created to introduce children to orchestral instruments. Each character is represented by a distinct instrument: Peter (strings), the bird (flute), the duck (oboe), the cat (clarinet), the wolf (horns) and the grandfather (bassoon). The ballet follows brave young Peter as he ventures beyond his garden gate and cleverly outwits a sly wolf with the help of his animal friends.

‘Les Patineurs (The Skating Party)’

A joyful one‑act divertissement, “Les Patineurs” has been a cherished part of the GNBC repertoire since 1971. Set at a Victorian skating party on a winter evening, the ballet features townspeople gliding, spinning and leaping across a frozen pond. As snow begins to fall and twilight settles in, the skaters savor the final moments of their festive gathering.

‘Jewel Fairies’ from ‘The Sleeping Beauty’

This sparkling divertissement from “The Sleeping Beauty” showcases the fairies of Emerald, Sapphire, Amethyst and Diamond as they dance in celebration of Princess Aurora’s wedding. Originally choreographed by Marius Petipa to the music of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, “The Sleeping Beauty” has remained a cornerstone of classical ballet for more than a century. This staging marks the first time GNBC has brought “Jewel Fairies” to the stage.

The GNBC’s production of “Fables & Frost” is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
