Niagara Orleans Central Labor Council press release
The Niagara Orleans Central Labor Council invites the community to join in commemorating Workers’ Memorial Day on Saturday, May 2, at Reservoir Park, 5755 Military Road, Niagara Falls (on the New York Power Authority grounds).
Light refreshments will be available from 9-9:30 a.m., with the ceremony beginning promptly at 9:30 a.m.
For 35 years, the Niagara Orleans Central Labor Council has hosted this solemn event to honor workers who lost their lives on the job. This annual commemoration serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of workplace safety and the ongoing fight to protect workers’ rights.
“We gather to honor those who went to work and never came home,” said James Briggs, president of the Niagara Orleans Central Labor Council. “We must continue to be the voice for workers so that we do not have to add more names to our monument.”
This year’s program will include the premiere of a new documentary highlighting the profound impact a worker’s death has on families, colleagues and the broader community.
In addition to remembrance, the Niagara Orleans Central Labor Council continues to advocate for meaningful reform of the Workers’ Compensation system in New York, working alongside elected officials to ensure injured workers can focus on healing rather than struggling to access the care they deserve.
Community members, labor leaders and advocates are encouraged to attend and stand in solidarity for workers’ safety and rights.
