The Wheatfield Town Board funded Paws In The Falls with $1,000 to operate a feral cat trap and neuter activities within the municipality. The animal shelter group has a facility off Cayuga Drive and formally presented at the Town Board's regular business meeting on Monday.

When retired City of Buffalo firefighter Gary Schultz saw that the Lackawanna Fire Department was auctioning off an old ladder firetruck, he could not let it go to scrap. His bid won and he decided to take the vehicle and turn it into a memorial for his fellow firefighters, EMS personnel and U.S. veterans. His plan is to ride it in parades to thank first responders and our armed services for what they do for their communities and our country.

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center announce its training affiliation agreement with the 914th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, based at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station, is now officially underway with the first squadron members beginning clinical training at the hospital.

On Feb. 4, West Street Elementary School held a fundraiser for the American Red Cross disaster relief fund to help victims of the tornadoes in Florida and the widespread fires in California. Children were asked to donate a dollar to enter a coloring contest and, if at least $200 was raised, then Principal Mr. Mong would have to kiss a goat (this year's leadership theme is country/farm).

On Sunday, Jan. 26, at 10:35 p.m., the Town of Niagara Police responded to 69 Steele Circle for a reported garage structure fire. Responding officers were advised that there was a vehicle in the garage and there was one male party with burns.

Customers of Wegmans Food Market stores raised more than $2.5 million during the company's fall 2024 hunger relief checkout scanning campaign, known regionally as "Check Out Hunger" or "Together Against Hunger." This campaign allows customers to donate any amount at checkout, with 100% of the proceeds going to each store's local Feeding America food bank partner.

On Jan. 18, at approximately 12:44 p.m., the Niagara County Sheriff's Office communication center received a 911 call reporting an abandoned dog in a dumpster behind Nelson's Café, 2298 River Road. Deputies responded and were able to retrieve the dog. The dog was turned over to the care of SPCA agent Rinehart.

On Jan. 10, at 11:47 p.m., the Niagara County Sheriff's Office communications center received a 911 call reporting heavy smoke and flames observed from 3992 Baisch Drive in the Town of Wheatfield. NCSO deputies and a North Tonawanda police officer responded and confirmed a working structure fire.

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced Gregory Noonan, age 25, of Niagara Falls, plead guilty in County Court to two counts of attempted rape in the first degree. Noonan had been indicted with charges of sexually assaulting two different victims in Niagara Falls in 2021 and 2022.
