This initiative builds on NYSDOL's ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of outdoor workers during extreme weather events, following the release of heavy precipitation, wildfire smoke and extreme heat guidance.

Local charity Totally Buffalo Cares is bringing some Christmas joy to elementary school kids in Niagara Falls this week. When I took office on Jan. 1, 2016, I quickly learned that the current town and village police contract, which had been signed in 1995, had never been updated. There were several attempts by previous town and village boards to do so, but it was never finished. Although the original contract never officially "expired," it was meant to be renegotiated approximately every five years.

On Dec. 10, the Rotary Club of Lewiston/Niagara-on-the-Lake held its annual Christmas party at the Lewiston Stone House. It distributed the profits from a successful theatrical production of "The Odd Couple" to help the less-fortunate. Recipients included HART (Home Assistance Referral Team); Care and Share food pantry; Heart, Love & Soul food pantry; and Messiah Lutheran Church.
