On a sweltering day in Philadelphia 1776 the second continental congress is divided on whether to declare independence or not. The musical “1776” tells this story with humor, drama and rousing musical numbers.
With a talented cast made up of a mixture of professional and local amateur actors, this show exemplifies the mission of the theater board to help all ages engage in the joy of performing. It is the perfect fun way to celebrate America’s 250th birthday!
Performances are 2 and 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 23, at the Niagara Post Theater, 6 Porter Ave. Youngstown (in Fort Niagara State Park). All performances are outdoor and free, with donations going entirely to the Niagara Post Theater. Information about the theater and its renovation process can be found at niagaraposttheater.org.
