All God’s critters and their caretakers are invited to receive a special blessing Sunday as St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 140 Rainbow Blvd., Niagara Falls, hosts the blessing of animals, a celebration of creation and of the bond between animals and people.
The event will be held from 12:30-3:30 p.m. Also on hand with adoptable animals looking for homes will be Paws Inn the Falls Animal Complex, an organization dedicated to providing animals with temporary housing until they can be placed in adoptive homes.
The blessing of animals is inspired by Saint Francis of Assisi, the beloved Italian mystic, poet and friar who was known for his deep love of all God’s creatures, and is traditionally held on or about Oct. 4, his feast day.
