Residents encouraged to visit city’s 311 portal to report areas in need of clean up

Submitted on behalf of the City of Niagara Falls Office of the Mayor

Contractors hired by the City of Niagara Falls have cleaned up over 400 blighted properties and lots since the state of emergency was declared July 20. On Aug. 19, the state of emergency was extended for an additional 30 days. Also approved under the emergency declaration is a contract to pave Niagara Street between Hyde Park Boulevard and Portage Road covering 30 blocks, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of fall.

In addition to work being performed by contractors, the city’s clean team continues to cut grass, trim trees and perform other tasks to clean up blighted properties and lots across the city.

“We are coming towards the end of the season where this work must be completed before winter hits and asphalt plants close and conditions won’t allow grass cutting and tree trimming, and that is why our clean team and contractors are continuing to work so hard to get as much done to beautify our city,” City of Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino said. “We know there is much more to be done and that is why we encourage residents to continue to visit the city’s 311 portal regarding any blighted properties or areas that need to be cleaned up.”

The work performed on Niagara Street is being financed by the New York State Department of Transportation through the New York State Touring Route Program, state funding that cities, towns and villages utilize for the maintenance, construction and repair of local highways and bridges that serve as signed state touring routes.

The city’s Department of Public Works continues to make progress on the scheduled road repair and paving work on streets identified by the administration before hot-patch season.
