Artpark & Company held its gala last Wednesday at the Niagara Falls Country Club.

Lyn Dyster, who chaired the event, wrote, “Thank you for joining us for this very special evening and for helping us celebrate the extraordinary legacy of Artpark and the remarkable artists who have made it such a meaningful part of our community.

“We are especially grateful to our honorary chairs, Dickie and Marie Smothers, for their friendship, enthusiasm and support. It is a true pleasure to have them as part of this celebration and exciting to recognize Dickie’s extraordinary career.

“Tonight is a celebration, but it is also an opportunity to look toward the future. For generations, Artpark has provided a place where creativity, innovation and the arts can flourish. Its impact reaches far beyond the performances and events themselves – it inspires audiences, supports artists, brings people together, and helps make Western New York a vibrant cultural destination.

“None of this happens without the generosity of people like you.”

Dickie and Marie Smothers shared, “Dickie being honored by Artpark is an extraordinary honor. Artpark has always represented something very special – the power of the arts to bring people together, inspire new ideas, create lasting memories, and enrich our community. To have our friends and supporters gathered together in celebration makes this recognition all the more meaningful.

“For Dickie personally, the evening is sure to bring back so many wonderful memories of a lifetime in entertainment and of the incredible people he has been fortunate enough to meet along the way.

“We are truly touched by the warmth, kindness and generosity that Lewiston and Artpark has shown us. Your presence is a wonderful reminder that the greatest part of any celebration is the people with whom you share it. We are grateful not only for your attendance, but also for your friendship and for your support of Artpark and the arts in our community.”

Artpark & Company President Dave Wedekindt noted, “One thing that makes Artpark an integral part of Western New York’s cultural landscape is not just its unique fusion of art, nature and culture, but its ‘soul.’ Whether you’re a first-time visitor, or have had the pleasure of visiting Artpark many times, you can’t help but feel the energy the place possesses. Though tonight’s celebration takes us beyond Artpark’s grounds, that same spirit travels with us wherever we gather.”

Gala guests enjoyed a multicourse meal; a program led by comedian Les McCurdy; an auction and “Raise the Paddle” opportunity to give back, led by former Buffalo Bills player Lou Piccone; a video tribute to Dickie Smothers produced by Lynne Bader, Borderless/BTPM; and music from the Merciful Travelers Trio led by pianist Elliot Sneider and featuring bassist Marc Cousins and drummer Abdul-Rahman Qadir.
