Old Fort Niagara press release
Most Western New Yorkers are familiar with Old Fort Niagara’s infamous ghost in the well story. This tale, which dates back almost two centuries, is all about the ghost of a French officer, decapitated in a duel, who stalks the halls of the 1726 French Castle on nights of the full moon. As intriguing as this story is, it is only one of many strange and unexplained phenomena associated with the popular historic site.
On Friday and Saturday nights, Oct. 16-17, visitors will have the opportunity to experience more spooky happenings that have occurred over three centuries of history as Old Fort Niagara introduces a new event, “Ghosts of the Garrison.”
Storytellers posted around Fort Niagara will regale visitors with tales of murder, mayhem and buried treasure. Visitors will hear about ghostly apparitions, strange noises and mysterious disappearances as they navigate the darkened halls of the buildings by lantern light.
Tickets for “Ghosts of the Garrison” are available in advance on Eventbrite at https://ghostsofthegarrison2026.eventbrite.com . They will also be available at the door. “Ghosts of the Garrison” is a fundraising event that benefits Old Fort Niagara’s educational programs that serve some 80,000 people per year, including 10,000 school students.
