On Feb. 14, 2026, at approximately 5:14 p.m., officers with the Lewiston Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Buffalo Street in Sanborn for a welfare check on a female resident. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased female inside the residence.

The cherry on top of weeks of snow accumulations and freezing-cold temperatures is ice dams forming in and above gutters across Western New York. Though not a new phenomenon, these blocks of ice - and the size and quantity of attached icicles - have not been this noticeable (or noisome) in recent years.

Throughout this week, Lewiston laborers have been out along Center Street clearing massive snow piles caused by January's snowstorms. In working to clear the roads and sidewalks, snow had accumulated to heights almost equaling the neighboring buildings.
