Niagara County Legislator Chris McKimmie will host his next "Coffee with Chris" community forum from 9-10 a.m. Saturday, April 18, at Grace Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls. The event will feature New York State Sen. Rob Ortt, who serves as the Republican leader of the New York State Senate.

HOPE Day, the annual 24-hour match challenge day of giving, raised a total of $528,105 in support of Appeal 2026 on March 18 to benefit Catholic Charities of Buffalo and the "Fund for the Faith," pushing the annual campaign past the halfway mark toward its overall $8 million goal. The total surpasses last year's record of $516,124.

New this year (for tax year 2025), households with the lowest income, or even no income, can receive the maximum for this credit.

On Friday, the New York State Department of Transportation announced, "Cayuga Drive will be closed to through traffic, and the detour will be in effect on weekends, as well as weekdays, for the remainder of construction. Mark Hagar Jr., 50, has lost 60 pounds so far, as his chemotherapy treatments continue at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Institute. There is no cure for pancreatic cancer and the treatment he's receiving is for "maintenance," Hagar explained from his home on Friday.

Niagara County Legislator Shawn Foti reminds residents that the county has begun accepting reservations for picnic shelters in county parks for this summer. The county operates five parks: Krull, Oppenheim, Royalton Ravine, West Canal Marina and Burmaster at Bond Lake. Boaters can also reserve boat slips at West Canal Marina.
