The Grand Island Town Board, at its Sept. 3 meeting, issued a proclamation to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the National Association of Women Business Owners Buffalo Niagara (NAWBO), which will occur on Sept. 11. Erie County's ErieNet broadband initiative is cleared to begin construction in the City of Buffalo after the Buffalo Common Council passed a resolution approving the Telecommunications License Agreement with ErieNet LDC on Sept. 3. The approval is a major step toward bringing high-speed broadband access to areas of Erie County that have lacked it for years.

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced 22-year-old Teiyahna Bivens of Buffalo was sentenced this morning before Erie County Court Judge Susan Eagan. She received an indeterminate sentence of four to 12 years in prison.

The DeGlopper Memorial expansion committee gathered on Monday, Aug. 26, to witness the installation of a Purple Heart monument that recognizes men and women who were wounded in battle, and a second monument that displays the poignant words of the taps song that is played at every military funeral. The monuments have been added to the DeGlopper Memorial site, located at the triangle of Baseline Road and Grand Island Boulevard.
