On Sunday evening, Artpark & Company hosted the world premiere of Buffalo composer Moshe Shulman's "Beyond Buffalo: A Celebration of Multiculturalism in Music and Dance." Erie County will participate in a nationally coordinated effort to reduce risks for rabies in wildlife in August. As in past summers, aerial distribution of bait containing rabies vaccine will take place in Erie County from Aug. 13-23 (schedule dependent on weather). Ground bait distribution will begin Aug. 16.

In honor of Purple Heart Appreciation Day, Erie County Clerk Michael P. Kearns recognized Erie County Purple Heart Recipients added to the William J. Donovan Purple Heart Book of Merit for 2024. No formal record of Purple Heart recipients in Erie County existed prior to 2018, when Kearns originated Erie County's version of the "Book of Merit."

The fourth Frank J. Gaffney Purple Heart recognition ceremony saw over a hundred spectators on hand outside the Niagara County Courthouse on Sunday. The American Legion Band of the Tonawandas performed, and 89 new names were added to the memorial monument in Lockport. There are now 557 named honorees carved in stone around the flagpoles next to the courthouse.
