Town of Wheatfield Lions Club Press Release & Photos

The Town of Wheatfield Lions hosted a picnic for the visually impaired on Sunday at Five Senses Nature Park. About 100 people attended the annual event.

Lion Walt Garrow explained the club’s motto is “We Serve,” and that service extends to the visually impaired, diabetics, hunger, the environment, pediatric cancer, youth, natural disasters and humanitarian needs.

For the picnic, “Our members call and contact many of those with serious visual impairments. The purpose is to recognize, serve, and provide a fun and fulfilling day out of their normal routines,” Garrow said. “We check on their interests and desires to attend this picnic. As a result, we coordinate and provide their transportation.”

He added, “Via long-range planning, all the local Lions Clubs in District 20N come together to plan for this event. Duties are divided up; such as, one club coordinates with a vendor for the barbecued chicken dinners. Other clubs provide salads. Others bring and cook the corn, etc. Thus, this is our Lions Clubs coming together to do something nice and assisting for those we value.”
