Niagara Gospel Mission formally dedicated its men’s emergency shelter in honor of Tom McLaughlin, recognizing his decades of faithful leadership and lifelong commitment to serving individuals experiencing homelessness.
McLaughlin previously served as executive director of Niagara Gospel Mission. With more than 30 years of experience in rescue mission ministry he also served as the executive director of the Buffalo City Mission and associate director at the Syracuse Rescue Mission. His influence has shaped countless lives across Western New York and strengthened the mission movement throughout the region.
The dedication ceremony, held at Niagara Gospel Mission’s campus at 1317 Portage Road, brought together staff, board members, volunteers and community supporters to celebrate McLaughlin’s legacy of service. The naming of the men’s emergency shelter stands as a lasting tribute to McLaughlin’s devotion to Gospel-centered ministry and compassionate care for those in need.
The Rev. John Cooper, current executive director of Niagara Gospel Mission, spoke during the ceremony about the personal and organizational impact of McLaughlin’s leadership.
“Tom has not only served this Mission with integrity and vision, but he has also invested deeply in the leaders who would follow him,” Cooper said. “His mentorship has shaped the way we think about homeless ministry – combining compassion with accountability, and practical help with Gospel hope. I am personally grateful for his counsel, his example, and his unwavering commitment to this work.”
Throughout his career, McLaughlin has been known for his steady leadership, strategic growth initiatives, and deep compassion for individuals seeking a second chance. The dedication reflects the Mission’s gratitude for his enduring contributions and his decades-long devotion to strengthening rescue mission ministry.
