Niagara Gospel Mission hosts donor appreciation golf outing with recovery program participants

Niagara Gospel Mission partnered with Audubon Golf Course in Amherst on Wednesday to host a unique donor appreciation golf outing that brought together supporters of the agency and men participating in its RECON recovery and discipleship program.

The event provided an opportunity for donors to experience firsthand one of Niagara Gospel Mission's most distinctive recovery and mentoring programs. Throughout the day, supporters played alongside men who are rebuilding their lives through the long-term recovery programs, creating meaningful conversations and relationships while enjoying a round of golf together.

"This was our opportunity to simply say 'Thank you' to the faithful supporters who make this ministry possible," said John Cooper Jr., executive director of the Niagara Gospel Mission. "Our donors regularly hear about the lives being changed at the Mission, but (here) they had the opportunity to see that transformation firsthand. Watching our supporters build relationships with the men in our program was a tremendous blessing."

The golfing program at Niagara Gospel Mission is more than a recreational activity. The program uses the game of golf as a platform for discipleship, leadership development, mentorship, and character formation. Through weekly instruction and intentional relationship-building, participants learn valuable life lessons that reinforce the principles taught throughout the recovery programs.

The outing also allowed donors to witness the confidence, growth and personal development of the men as they interacted both on and off the course. Many participants shared how the program has challenged them to develop discipline, integrity, humility and perseverance – qualities that are essential both in golf and in life.
