Press Release
The Village of Youngstown Recreation Department has received funding from the Peter & Elizabeth C. Tower Foundation to expand its offerings for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Starting in October, Sam Castiglione will lead six sessions of disc golf for children ages 10-12, followed by six sessions of basketball in the winter/spring. This program is all-inclusive, and designed for children with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
A trained coach and certified special education teacher, Castiglione said, “Thanks to the grant from the Tower Foundation, we can provide this opportunity to allow kids with all skills and abilities a chance to learn about different sports.”
Recreation Director Jeff Gruarin said, “When we started the Sensory Space for toddlers, it was received with a lot of enthusiasm. I hear from families that there is a consistent need for programs and resources, so we are very excited to be able to offer Sam’s class for the next two years.”
