Lewiston Beautification

By Lewiston Beautification Committee

The Lewiston Beautification Committee recently completed a total re-do of the Marilyn Toohey park garden located at the entrance to the playground adjacent to the Red Brick Municipal Building.

Of note:

•A new black metal bench was donated by the Toohey family.

•Funds were donated by the Lewiston Garden Club for purchase of the white fence, stone walkway and tree.

•A charming “children’s library box” was donated in memory of Paula Crispell by three of her friends. Paula was a social worker who devoted her practice to children and their families. Beautification member Lu Olson hand-painted the box, and it’s been placed along the walkway into the park (adjacent to the colorful, blue bench) where children begin and continue their love of reading.

•Beautification member Katie Beaver led the Beautification team as the new garden was created with perennials and colorful annuals. The door to the bathroom was even painted yellow to create the welcoming look!

•The DPW installed the fence.

Beautification’s last big re-do project of the year is Hennepin Park and, in particular, the updated gazebo.

The landmark has received new railings and new plantings surrounding it, creating a new charm. It’s always in full use – whether supporting a concert, children playing on it, or folks using the stage as a wonderful backdrop for snapping pictures.

Beautification team members once again joined forces to continue our theme of “Grow Positive Thoughts” throughout our beautiful village.

Lewiston Garden Club update

By the Lewiston Garden Club

The summer of 2026 has been busy for the Lewiston Garden Club. In addition to GardenFest 2026, club members have been planting and caring for gardens. The club financed and planted flowers at the Lewiston Library, Lewiston Museum, and Town Hall. Club members watered and weeded daily at the library and museum.

To complement the new fence financed by the club, the members undertook a major project on the eastern side of the Lewiston Museum. The project was coordinated by club member Barbara Landree, performed by Faery’s Landscaping, and financed by a generous donation from Francis and Marie Williams. That area will now be more accessible for visitors.

Additionally, the club awarded scholarships to two seniors from Lewiston-Porter High School. Samantha Draper and Jaden Reid were selected by the scholarship committee led by Amy SanGiacomo.

September has two upcoming events for the club. On Sept. 23, the club will be recognized by the Friends of the Lewiston Library as the Mamie Simonson Volunteer of the Year for decades of volunteer work beautifying library grounds. Then, at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at the library, there will be a business meeting and an educational offering. Pat England will present about mason bees.

Guests are welcome to attend the meeting.
