The Lewiston & Niagara-on-the Lake Rotary Club is continuing its benefit series of “Theater with a Purpose” with “Erma Bombeck: At Wit's End – featuring Linda Silvestri,” for a one-weekend run in October. Proceeds from the production will benefit HART Inc. and Messiah Lutheran Church of Lewiston.

This is the first one-woman show for the area veteran actress.

“I’m a huge Erma Bombeck fan, so when (director) Frank Scelsa approached me about the production, I think I said ‘Yes’ while he was mid-sentence asking me,” Silvestri said.

Her first collaboration with Scelsa was during last year’s production of “Nunsense” when Silvestri played Mother Superior.

“We all grew up reading Erma Bombeck’s newspaper column, and I find that her wisdom and humor on everyday subjects still applies today. Which is why I’m enjoying this play so much … her character still resonates with women,” Silvestri mused.

Silvestri is a semi-retired language teacher. “Semi” because she still teaches Italian at the Red Brick Municipal Building in Lewiston – and shows no sign of slowing down.

“Erma’s language is so universal, her humorous ways of looking at everyday situations, both inconsequential and important, still rings true,” Silvestri said. “She was the original ‘Trailblazer for housewives’ and it has been a joy portraying her.”

Tickets are available, but selling fast for the three productions.

Show times and dates are 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16; 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18, at Messiah Lutheran 915 Oneida St., Lewiston

Tickets are $25 and available at https://our.show/b6t51qtx2y.
