On May 30, the Fin, Feather, and Fur Conservation Society, Modern Disposal Services, and Niagara Metals collaborated to host a successful scrap-metal drive, raising funds for Pinnacle Community Services. A check in the amount of $2,695 was presented Tuesday at the Youngstown 3F Club.

On Sunday, July 26, the Friends of Youngstown will host its third annual celebrity bartending fundraiser at Griffon Brewing in Youngstown. Proceeds from the event will benefit the renovations of the recreation center (formerly called the "teen center") at the Red Brick building.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County (CCE Niagara), in partnership with Hoover Dairy, announced the winner of the second annual "Fair-ly New" ice cream flavor contest: 12-year-old Cecelia Mecca, a Newfane resident, won this year's contest with "Star Spangled Swirls." She received 42.9% of the vote.

On Monday, June 29, at approximately 10:11 a.m., the Niagara County Communications Center received a report of a serious personal injury motor vehicle accident in front of 1678 Braley Road in the Town of Porter. Initial responding patrol units confirmed the crash involved a dirt bike.

Niagara Hospice is looking forward to the 13th annual Hospice Gran Fondo bike ride, taking place Aug. 1. It will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at the LaSalle Yacht Club on Buffalo Avenue with dinner, mingling and music. On Friday, there will be a tour of the old NFHS building on Portage Road and Pine Avenue from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Quinn Miller started collecting cans and bottles when he was 9 years old. As a Niagara County Tribune-Sentinel carrier, he would ask clients every week to leave cans and bottles outside of their homes for him to collect. It took him a year to gather the funds to donate his first check to Care-n-Share, a River Region nonprofit organization supported by Inter-Community Services

The Youngstown Business and Professional Association was incorporated in 1976. At that time, the YBPA president was Victor Szarejko, DDS. Originally, the purpose of YBPA was to be able to offer health insurance to various businesses in Youngstown. That job later went to the Lewiston Chamber of Commerce, but the YBPA continued on as an association serving the community.

The Friends of Youngstown has received funding for summer programming from the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation's Legacy Fund, held at the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo. The grant will support sport sampling for three weeks in July and August, at no cost for children entering grades 2-7.
