Dr. Scott F. McKay, of the Village of Lewiston, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born in Niagara Falls on May 22, 1946, the son of the late Gordon and Evelyn (Howard) McKay.

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has announced the makeup date for the first lifeguard qualifier of the year. The new date is 11 a.m. Jan. 24 at Hamburg High School, 4111 Legion Drive Hamburg. Testing is required for anyone wishing to work as a lifeguard at any New York state park.

The Niagara County Department of Health has received confirmation of two positive rabies cases involving raccoons in the towns of Cambria and Hartland. Samples were submitted to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center on Jan. 14, and positive results were confirmed Jan. 15.
