Free fishing weekend in New York state

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced June 29-30 is a free fishing weekend in New York state. During free fishing days, the fishing license requirement is waived for freshwater fishing on New York's waters.

Lew-Port Youth Football is hosting the 2024 NEYSA Flag Football Tournament on June 8 and 9 at the Lewiston-Porter campus on Creek Road. Games will start at 9 a.m. both days, and will end at 5 p.m., at Blakeslee and Elia fields by the high school. There will also be games on the fields behind the PEC.

Outside the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum last Friday, we met a graceful Billye Aaron, the widow of Henry Lewis "Hammerin' Hank" Aaron to present a plaque, titled, "Henry Aaron's Connection with Buffalo, New York." It was one day after a bronze statue of her husband was unveiled, and moments before the ribbon would be cut on the museum's newest exhibit, "The Souls of the Game: The Voices of Black Baseball."
