Residents of Connect55+ communities came together in February for the annual Connect55+ can competition, a longstanding tradition organized by the Calamar Foundation to support local food banks and charities. On Feb. 4, West Street Elementary School held a fundraiser for the American Red Cross disaster relief fund to help victims of the tornadoes in Florida and the widespread fires in California. Children were asked to donate a dollar to enter a coloring contest and, if at least $200 was raised, then Principal Mr. Mong would have to kiss a goat (this year's leadership theme is country/farm).

The Riviera Theatre and several local restaurants are teaming up to help support Twin Cities Community Outreach (TCCO), home of the NT InterChurch Food pantry, with a special event on Wednesday, Dec. 11, according to Niagara County legislators Rich Andres, Randy Bradt and Jesse Gooch, who are spearheading the effort. This is the second year for the event, dubbed "A Miracle in North Tonawanda."
