Residents of North Tonawanda have voiced increasing concerns about unsafe driving behaviors that endanger pedestrians, particularly around school zones. In response, Mayor Austin Tylec is announcing the LetsDriveSafer pilot program, designed to create safer streets and address community concerns.

On Jan. 18, at approximately 12:44 p.m., the Niagara County Sheriff's Office communication center received a 911 call reporting an abandoned dog in a dumpster behind Nelson's Café, 2298 River Road. Deputies responded and were able to retrieve the dog. The dog was turned over to the care of SPCA agent Rinehart.

On Jan. 10, at 11:47 p.m., the Niagara County Sheriff's Office communications center received a 911 call reporting heavy smoke and flames observed from 3992 Baisch Drive in the Town of Wheatfield. NCSO deputies and a North Tonawanda police officer responded and confirmed a working structure fire.

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced Gregory Noonan, age 25, of Niagara Falls, plead guilty in County Court to two counts of attempted rape in the first degree. Noonan had been indicted with charges of sexually assaulting two different victims in Niagara Falls in 2021 and 2022.
