Gov. Kathy Hochul has signed legislation to crack down on the "black market" for restaurant reservations. The bill prohibits third-party restaurant reservation services from arranging unauthorized reservations, putting an end to a predatory marketplace that placed a cost on consumers before they even entered a restaurant, and made dining inaccessible to those who refused to pay.

Batavia Downs President and CEO Bryon Brown has announced the lineup for the eighth "Rockin' the Downs" summer concert series. The shows, eight in all, will be held on Friday nights outside in the middle of the Batavia Downs horse racing track. Concerts will start in June and run into August.

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced James D. Dietz, 57, of Buffalo, pleaded guilty yesterday before State Supreme Court Justice Paul B. Wojtaszek to one count of manslaughter in the first degree (class "B" violent felony). The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge in full satisfaction of the indictment.

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane on Thursday announced Devante D. Henley, 32, of Buffalo, was sentenced yesterday morning before State Supreme Court Justice Debra Givens to a determinate sentence of 3 1/2 years in state prison followed by 2 1/2 years of post-release supervision.

National Fuel Gas Distribution Corp. received approval Thursday from the New York Public Service Commission (PSC) to increase its base delivery rates and charges for gas service effective Jan. 1, 2025. This is the first increase to National Fuel's base delivery rates in New York since 2017 and only the second increase in 16 years.

The ceremony, held at the Tuscarora Heroes Monument on Center Street, marked 211 years since Tuscarora natives saved dozens of Lewiston settlers during a British attack in the War of 1812.

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced Om D. Samant, 36, of Amherst, was sentenced yesterday afternoon before State Supreme Court Justice Deborah A. Haendiges to a determinate sentence of 10 years in state prison and five years post-release supervision. This was the minimum sentence authorized by the plea agreement and is what was being advocated for by the family of the victim.

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced Gregory Noonan, age 25, of Niagara Falls, plead guilty in County Court to two counts of attempted rape in the first degree. Noonan had been indicted with charges of sexually assaulting two different victims in Niagara Falls in 2021 and 2022.
