The Village of Lewiston held its reorganizational meeting on Monday, officially setting the stage for the next fiscal year.
Trustees approved the following motions and resolution:
•The mayor’s appointment Victor Eydt to the position of deputy mayor, for a one-year term of office.
•The reappointment of law counsel Joseph Leone as the village attorney, Nussbaumer & Clarke Inc. as the municipal engineering firm, Treasurer Stephanie Longwell as registrar, Clerk Shannon Fundis as deputy registrar, and Russell Piper as historian – all for a one-year term.
•To waive the residency requirement for Piper, Fire Inspector Barry Beebe, Building Inspector/Zoning Officer Ken Candella, Planning Commission Chairman Richard Haight and Recreation Department Director Brendan McDermott.
•To establish the following liaison assignments: administration, Mayor Anne Welch/Eydt (alternate); personnel, Trustee Nick Conde/Eydt; Upward Niagara Chamber of Commerce, Welch/Trustee Jim Fittante; beautification, Welch/Trustee Tina Coppins; Artpark, Welch/Coppins; Lewiston Council on the Arts, Coppins/Welch; law enforcement, Coppins/Conde; Lewiston Fire Co. No. 1, Eydt/Fittante; recreation, parks and environment, Fittante/Conde; Planning Commission, Welch/Fittante; Zoning Board of Appeals, Conde/Eydt; Department of Public Works, Conde/Eydt; Community Sewer Commission, Eydt/Conde; American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eydt/Coppins; Lewiston Public Library, Coppins/Fittante; Historic Preservation Commission, Welch/Fittante.
•To establish the regular meeting dates of the Village Board of Trustees for fiscal year 2025-26 at 6 p.m. in the Red Brick Municipal Building, 145 N. Fourth St. Official Village Board meetings shall be the first Monday of the month from October-May, except the September 2025 meeting shall be on the first Tuesday; the third Monday of each month from September-August, except January and February 2026 meetings shall be on the third Tuesday. The next reorganizational meeting will be at 5 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2026.
•To designate the Sentinel as the official newspaper of the Village of Lewiston.
•To approve the reappointments of James Ullery to the Planning Commission, Joshua Janese to the Planning Commission, Denise Mess to the Parks, Recreation and Conservation Board, Colleen Swavy to the Parks, Recreation and Conservation Board, and Joseph Marra to the Parks, Recreation and Conservation Board – all for a two-year term to 2027.
New web address
Prior to the meeting, the Village of Lewiston announced a new website: www.villageoflewistonny.gov.
The clerk’s office cited correspondence from the New York Municipal Insurance Reciprocal – the insurance company of New York's municipal associations (The Conference of Mayors, Association of Towns and Association of Counties) – which stated, “Recent legislation has amended General Municipal Law §§ 300 and 30(7), MANDATING that all municipal corporations with a population of 1,500 or more establish and maintain an official website with a ‘.gov’ domain name.”
