Kiwanis Club of Lewiston press release

The Kiwanis Club of Lewiston has earned international recognition as its beloved Niagara County Peach Festival has been named a “Top 10 Signature Project” worldwide by Kiwanis International.

The honor follows a highly competitive selection process that saw a record 590 Kiwanis clubs from around the globe submit nominations for the 2026 contest.

The Lewiston club’s entry was submitted by Secretary Leandra Collesano and President John Ceretto to the Kiwanis New York District, where it was first selected as a district signature project. It then advanced to the international level, where it was chosen among the top projects worldwide.

“This is truly an extraordinary achievement for our club and our community,” Peach Festival Chairman Mark J. Briglio said. “The Peach Festival represents decades of service, partnership, and dedication to improving the lives of children and families throughout Niagara County.”

A 68-year tradition of community & service

For residents of Lewiston, summer officially concludes with the Niagara County Peach Festival – a four-day celebration that has grown into one of Western New York’s most cherished traditions. Niagara County Peach Festival highlights include:

  • The sale of 7 tons of peach shortcake
  • Midway rides and games
  • Peach Festival parade
  • Thousands of hamburgers and hot dogs served annually
  • 5k run
  • Homemade peach dessert taste-off
  • Live music from local bands

Now in its 68th year, the festival is more than just an event – it is a cornerstone of community involvement. Nearly every Kiwanis member can trace their connection to the organization back to the festival.

The Peach Festival’s success is powered by widespread local support. Area businesses and organizations contribute by donating land for parking, assisting with security and waste management, and providing essential services.

All festival vendors are local businesses, while members of Kiwanis service leadership programs help operate concessions and booths.

Approximately $1.9 million in proceeds from the event have been reinvested into the community, supporting individuals, families and organizations in need throughout the year.

Global stage ahead

As a Top 10 honoree, the Kiwanis Club of Lewiston will represent the New York District on the international stage at the Kiwanis International Convention, taking place June 24-27 in Manila.
