Niagara County Department of Health confirms case of bat rabies

The Niagara County Department of Health has received confirmation of a positive rabies case involving a bat in the City of North Tonawanda. The sample was submitted to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center on July 22, and positive results were confirmed July 30.
Water quality advisory issued for Olcott Beach

The Niagara County Department of Health has issued a water quality advisory for Olcott Beach. Routine water quality surveillance sampling conducted on Aug. 3 determined bacteriological levels exceeded standards established for safe recreational swimming. As a result, Olcott Beach has been closed to swimming until further notice.

The Niagara County/America 250 anniversary drone show saw a huge crowd come out to Old Fort Niagara on Saturday. It was an evening of music - with the Niagara County Wide America 250 Concert Band, David & Ginger Hildebrand, the 10th Mountain Division U.S. Army Band, and The MacKenzie Highlanders Pipes and Drums - and there were living history programs, food and camaraderie throughout the daylong Revolutionary War encampment prior to the lightshow.

New York State Senate Minority Leader Rob Ortt introduced legislation, Senate Bill S.10672, which would amend the environmental conservation law in relation to radioactive waste disposal. Currently, the state's hazardous waste Superfund program does not cover radiological contamination - and a Superfund cannot be declared for radiological contamination remediation.
