Gianna Abramo was named 2026 Niagara County Peach Queen on Sunday night at the conclusion of the 68th annual Peach Festival. The 17-year-old North Tonawanda resident outscored 11 other candidates to win the crown and a $4,000 scholarship courtesy of the Lewiston Kiwanis Club.

Longtime Western New York broadcaster Tom Darro, host of WEBR Radio's "Viewpoint," has been named honorary parade marshal for the 2026 Niagara County Peach Festival parade. The annual trek will step off at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, traveling along Center Street in the Village of Lewiston as part of one of Niagara County's most popular and longest-running community celebrations.

Village of Lewiston residents can speak their minds Monday on Ellicott Development Co.'s proposal to convert building No. 3 of its Center Street plaza into a retail space. The Buffalo-based real estate development, property management, commercial leasing and hospitality firm has not publicly named its proposed tenant, but drawings submitted to the municipality show Ace Hardware as the occupant.

The Niagara County Department of Health has issued a water quality advisory for Olcott Beach. Routine water quality surveillance sampling conducted on Aug. 31 determined bacteriological levels exceeded standards established for safe recreational swimming. As a result, Olcott Beach has been closed to swimming until further notice.

The forecast called for rain; instead, the thousands in attendance experienced hot licks and cool beats headlined by Buffalo native Paul Marinaro and his Chicago quintet on Friday, and trumpeter and vocalist Bria Skonberg on Saturday.

Lockport-Niagara Hospice will hold its annual Mighty Niagara Half Marathon and Hospice Dash 5K Run/Walk on Oct. 3. The half-marathon starts at Artpark State Park in Lewiston. The 5K starts at Porter on the Lake Town Park. Both races finish at Porter on the Lake Town Park.
