In its latest credit opinion, issued Dec. 24, Moody's ratings agency maintained Erie County's credit rating at A1 while upgrading the county's outlook from "stable" to "positive." In issuing its report, Moody's noted the improvement of the county's reserves and liquidity, and discontinuation of reliance on cash flow note financing, as well as a declining liability profile as credit strengths in issuing the upgrade.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the state's minimum wage is set to go up Jan. 1, 2026, marking the third straight year of increases. The minimum wage will rise to $17 per hour in New York City, Westchester and Long Island, while the rest of the state will see an increase to $16 per hour. This adjustment of 50 cents per hour is part of a planned series of increases, which will then be indexed to inflation starting in 2027.
