Travel advisory: Closure of Kensington Expressway ramps to Scajaquada Expressway

The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that the Kensington Expressway (state Route 33) ramps in both directions to the Scajaquada Expressway (Route 198) in the City of Buffalo will be closed beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, until 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, to facilitate paving. Drivers should expect delays and follow the posted detours.

Niagara County announces upcoming closure of Wilson Burt Road bridge

Niagara County Department of Public Works Commissioner Garret Meal announced the Wilson Burt Road bridge over 18 Mile Creek in the Town of Newfane will be closed to all motorists beginning Monday, Aug. 24. The bridge is expected to be closed for three days. Detour signs will be posted.
DEC accepting waterfowl hunting permit lottery entries for duck hunting opening weekend at Oak Orchard & Tonawanda WMAs

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is accepting entries for a special permit to hunt waterfowl at two popular wildlife management areas (WMAs) in Western New York. The special permit will allow duck hunting on the first Saturday and first Sunday of the western zone duck season at Oak Orchard and Tonawanda WMAs.
Spectrum Health to host 6th annual free community event

The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Wildlife Services program (USDA-WS) will begin a late-summer distribution of oral rabies vaccine (ORV) baits across Niagara County and Western New York in August and September.
Rabies vaccine distribution scheduled by air & ground for August, September in Erie County

As part of a nationally coordinated effort to reduce risks for rabies in wildlife, Erie County will see distribution of rabies vaccine bait by air and on the ground in August and September. These activities will start Aug. 12, with fixed-wing airplane dropping bait over rural areas through Aug. 21, and Erie County Department of Health staff placing bait on the ground through Aug. 24. (Schedule dependent on weather.) Helicopters will cover suburban areas from Sept. 14-19.

Niagara County Legislature Chairman Michael A. Hill announced Monday that Niagara County has received funds from New York State Environmental Facilities Corp. (EFC) to participate in New York state's septic system replacement fund. The program is designed to improve water quality by providing funds to counties to assist homeowners with replacing cesspools and septic systems that are adversely affecting designated waterbodies.
Professional Disc Golf Association Amateur Disc Golf World Championships coming to Erie & Niagara counties

The New York State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that Interstate 290 (Youngmann Memorial Highway) westbound in the Town of Tonawanda, between the Interstate 990 off-ramp to I-290 and the I-290 on-ramp from Niagara Falls Boulevard (Route 62) will be reduced from three lanes to one from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, to facilitate bridge repairs. Drivers should expect delays and consider alternate routes when possible.
