Last Friday, for the first time in more than 20 years, the general public walked through the front doors of the historic Frontier House in Lewiston. The building's first-floor tenant, Fairbanks restaurant, hosted a soft opening for those who helped its proprietors, Daniel Hagen and Jake Strawser, craft their second restaurant. They also operate Billy Club in Buffalo.

On Friday morning, Ulrich Sign removed the Frontier House sign Lewiston residents have known and stared at since 1964. The black-letter-on-white-background marker was taken down - it was gifted to the Historical Association of Lewiston and Lewiston Museum - and a new sign, reading "Frontier House." was installed. This billboard more closely resembles the original sign placed on the building in 1824 - with white letters on a black background - and, yes, the period, too.

The New York Power Authority will hold its annual "Deck the Halls" holiday celebration on Saturday, Dec. 14, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., at the Niagara Power Vista - the visitors center for the Niagara Power Project.
