It's official: Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute (HWI) formally joined the University at Buffalo on Jan. 2 after the two entities finalized the legal transfer of HWI assets to the university.

Local charity Totally Buffalo Cares is bringing some Christmas joy to elementary school kids in Niagara Falls this week. As part of its "Make a Case for Kids" campaign, the charity will be handing out gifts, hats and gloves to four local elementary schools in the Cataract City along with the help of Santa and his elves.

The new Niagara County Law Enforcement Academy (NCLEA) is officially open following a ribbon-cutting Tuesday at the new facility located on the campus of SUNY Niagara. The building is a partnership between the county, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office and SUNY Niagara, with funding for the $8.3 million project coming from both the county and state, along with a contribution from the City of Niagara Falls.

Niagara University observed Veterans Day with a special celebration in honor of the Rev. Joseph L. Levesque, C.M., former president of Niagara University and founder of its veteran program, and Rev. Lt. Thomas M. Conway, a Navy chaplain and Niagara University alumnus who received the Navy Cross for giving his life to bring spirituality and peace to the crew of the USS Indianapolis.
