U.S. Attorney Michael DiGiacomo announced Thursday that John L. Hutchins, 71, of Lewiston, pleaded guilty before Judge Meredith A. Vacca to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and bank fraud, which carry a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and a $1,000,000 fine.
HOPE Day raises $516,124 for Appeal 2025

HOPE Day, the annual 24-hour match challenge day of giving, brought in a record total of $516,124 in support of Appeal 2025 to benefit Catholic Charities of Buffalo and the "Fund for the Faith." This total included $111,000 in matching funds from OneBridge Benefits, EnergyMark LLC, Tops Friendly Markets, Uniland Development Co., Catholic Health, Abbey Mecca and Independent Health. HOPE Day 2025 was held March 19.

Since 2009, DEC has enforced the annual brush burning ban to prevent wildfires and protect communities and first responders during heightened conditions for wildfires.

Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced an 18-year-old male from Buffalo was sentenced yesterday afternoon before Buffalo City Court Judge Tiffany R. Perry to a one-year conditional discharge. As conditions of his sentence, the defendant must complete 60 hours of community service and continue with counseling.
