The Home Assistance Referral Team held its annual "Caregiver Appreciation Celebration" last Thursday at Academy Park in Lewiston. Each year, HART brings together caregivers enrolled in the program to enjoy time together, celebrate, and be recognized for their work. They are encouraged to include any individuals for whom they are caring, if they are able.

Niagara University celebrated the official opening of the Bieler Institute of Business Ethics with a ribbon cutting on Sept. 24. The initiative, spearheaded by a generous gift from Scott and Kathy Bieler and the Scott Bieler Family Foundation, transformed the first floor of the university's Bisgrove Hall into a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to advancing ethical leadership and innovation.

The Lewiston Garden Club met Sept. 22 at the Lewiston Public Library. Dorothy Julius, owner of Along Garden's Path and first assistant director of the 8th District Federated Garden Clubs (pictured), led an educational workshop for attendees. She provided guidance as to how to use flowers from our own gardens to create festive holiday floral decorations.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Buffalo District, completed a remedial investigation (RI) report and proposed plan (PP) for Niagara Falls Storage Site (NFSS) vicinity property H prime (VP-H'). A public comment period for the proposed plan will take place from Sept. 15 to Nov. 13, 2025. A public meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Town of Lewiston Senior Center at 4361 Lower River Road. A court reporter will be present to record public testimony.

Two Lewiston-Porter High School senior students were each presented with a $1,000 scholarship by the Lewiston Service Guild earlier this year. The scholarship recipients are Dominic Tracy of Youngstown, who is pursuing a degree in biochemistry at the University of Florida; and Rayhaan Shaikh of Lewiston, who is majoring in biology on the pre-med track at Niagara University.

Lockport-Niagara Hospice will hold its annual Mighty Niagara Half Marathon and Hospice Dash 5K Run/Walk on Oct. 4. The half marathon starts at Artpark State Park in Lewiston. The 5K starts at Porter on the Lake Town Park. Both races finish at Porter on the Lake Town Park.
