The Niagara County Department of Health has received confirmation of a positive rabies case involving a bat in the City of North Tonawanda. The sample was submitted to the New York State Department of Health Wadsworth Center on July 22, and positive results were confirmed July 30.

Routine water quality surveillance sampling conducted on Aug. 3 determined bacteriological levels exceeded standards established for safe recreational swimming. As a result, Olcott Beach has been closed to swimming until further notice.
